A sterling silver Tiffany & Company desk tidy, or 'catchall' for the dresser. This is a very 'modernist' looking piece with the exceptional quality of make that one would come to expect from early Twentieth Century Tiffany pieces. The piece has the appearance of a vacuum formed tray that was very popular during the 1950's, although its history can actually be traced back to the Nineteenth Century. However, due to the fact that this piece has been made in a thick gauge of sterling silver, this would have been stamped out. A very costly process in itself.
The origins of the piece would have been a smoking compendium. The three sections would have held cigars, cigarettes and matches. However, with the decline in the popularity of smoking today, this piece makes for a great re-purposing for the desk or dresser. It can hold key, change, cufflinks and any other items that find themselves in the pocket!
The exceptionally rare piece is in superb condition. Free from any flaw. The 'Tiffany & Co. Makers' is still perfect, as it was the day it was stamped. The reference number and all other information relating to this piece are present. The piece has the date letter 'M' which dates the piece from having been made in America under the company stewardship of John Moore.
